The Frugal Golfer

Keeping the game affordable.

I have been working on my game and have improved from a 12 Handicap to a 6-7 handicap over the past year. I currently am hitting the Mizuno MX-25 which I bought about two years ago. These clubs have served me quite well and have been pretty forgiving on all those mis-hits. I would like to switch to players club and have been looking hard at the blades and muscle backs from Mizuno.

Last week I visited Edwin Watts in Boca Raton and hit several of their demos. They put several models in my hands including MP-58, MP-32 (they can still get these), MP-67 and MP 68 (replacing MP-67).

The MP67/MP68 required a very precise swing and I rarely felt like I was making good strikes with this club. Not sure if it was me hitting it off center or just a different feel in the club.

Next was the MP-32. These had more of the butter feel that I like so well and you could easily tell where the ball was struck on the clubface.

Last was to hit was MP-58 which is replacing the MP-57. These irons are described as dual muscle and felt so sweet for my swing and striking ability. There is some forgiveness built into these irons but again, you still knew good hits from not-so-good hits.

I am heavily leaning towards the MP-58 for my next purchase but would like to hit them from real turf before plunking down $1000 for the set. Anyone else have any experience with these models???
